Unfortunate times two

In what can only be described as a bizarrely tragic event, a Baptist minister from Waco TX was electrocuted yesterday. He was standing in the baptistery, touched a microphone, and received what turned out to be a fatal shock. It is a tragedy; a 33-year old man, married, father of a 3 and a 5 year old, suddenly taken. You just shake your head, try to make some sense of it, and pray for strength and sustenance for his family.

I listen to WTOP news radio on my 3 minute drive to the Exxon to get the day’s supply of cubicle sustenance goodies, prior to listening to podcasts and MP3s on my 45 minute drive to work. I heard their report on the incident. At the end of the straight scripted reportage, they had a clip of an interview with one of the parishioners who was at the service when the accident happened. In a typical reporter question about her “feelings” after the incident, the parishioner started her reply with “It was a shock..”.

You can’t make up stuff like this.

To the family of the Rev. Kyle Lake, my heartfelt condolences.

Back Flip!

Hats off to Carl Edwards on winning the Bass Pro Shops MBNA 500 at Atlanta Motor Speedway today. I scored his traditional celebratory back-flip at a 9.2.

On the downside, my fantasy racing crew took another beating. I traded off the proper drivers, just didn’t pick up the ones I should have. When you have 4 of 8 drivers in the top 10, and the other 4 24th or worse, it makes for a long and point-deficient afternoon.

Wait ’til next week.

NASCAR This Morning, this morning

I just saw on NASCAR This Morning that there will be a penalty during the Atlanta race for having improperly inflated tires. The penalty for infraction, quoting David Hoots in the driver’s meeting, is “you will not leave pit road.”

Safety is a big concern; however, NASCAR is taking more and more control from the crew chiefs and teams. The teams should understand the risks, consult with Goodyear, and make their own decisions.

And, please, let them race.

And one of today’s 100000 new weblogs is born

I’ve come to the conclusion that it’s time to light this candle. First a few credits:

Thanks to Dave Slusher for his help, both with WordPress itself, and with posting tools. I’ve been uplifted by his input. More on the term uplifting will unfold on these here pixels later.

This is a WordPress weblog. Effortless to get installed, yet imminently hackable.

Hosting services by Speakeasy. They are located in Seattle WA, so if the posts are timestamped PST, that’s the reason.

Posts are uploaded using ecto. I tried Mars Edit first, and ecto just worked better for me out of the box.

The blog theme is gila, available here. There are a couple of tweaks I plan on making to the theme, as soon as I get knowledgeable enough and brave enough.

Finally, I’m a Macintosh guy by choice, and a Solaris admin by trade. No Microsoft products are used in the creation and maintenance of this site; I plan to keep it that way.
