A Day of Firsts

I made my first visit to a majorly huge shopping mall in I can’t remember how long. 5 or 6 years, at least.

I went to an Apple Store for the first time. I had no idea it would be so crowded. But with a place full of Aqua goodness and iPods, I’m surprised that I was surprised at the crowds.

People who know me know that I don’t go “shopping”. I hate traffic, crowds, roads that don’t run straight, that change names on a whim, all labeled with signage that I never know was there until I’ve passed it. Anyhow, my trip to the MegaHugeMall was to visit the Apple Store, in order to come home with the item pictured above. SWMBO and I sometimes need our production iMAC at the same time, and I wanted a little playground of my own to try some new stuff.

It’s a 17-inch, 1.5GB of RAM powered, G4 PowerBook, christened voyager. It’s now happily sharing the Verizon FiOSsm connection with its Apple AirPort network brother. I’ve spent less on used cars than the tab on this thing, but it fits with our near and far term ideas of computing power.

If you see an old guy fumbling around with one of these at some future geek conference, think of me. Hell, it could be me.

Color me the appropriate shade of envious. I want one so bad, I always have the taste of Apple in my mouth.

Damn if little Slusher didn’t take the words out of my mouth. Use it in good health my man and SWMBO!
