Love me some Internets

Whatever else happens, our granddaughter was tickled to see her smiling face on this here old website. I’m always amazed that this is even possible. Of course, I’m still amazed at radio and TV, and how they are delivered. She will doubtless regard these as the “olden days” as she grows older. For one shining moment, though, Grandpa and Grandma ruled! So did dinosaurs.

Happy Birthday, Ericka!

Happy Birthday, young lady!
It can’t be you are 14 today; I know I haven’t aged since you were born. Grandma either for that matter. This picture is a couple of years old, I guess. I’ve been hammering on this website for an hour or two, and my graphics skills don’t hold a candle to your Dad’s. No matter, We love you!

OK, Enough

This isn’t as tricked-out as I’d wanted, but it the spirit of stability, my sanity, and saving something to solve for later, this is my last go-round as a WordPress admin for this evening.

Nice livery though, eh?

Overreaching Doesn’t Pay

After a trouble-free WP 2.0 upgrade, I got terribly overconfident, and attempted to install a tricked-out new theme I found. To make my tale of woe mercifully short, I thought it might be expedient to change the WordPress URI. It was a war of dueling rewrite rules, which was solved with some direct database massage. Apologies to anyone visiting when the site was in a state of disarray. On the other hand, if you thought it looked better, let me know.

No Fantasies in Fantasy Racin’

What a day. I neglected to mention my fantasy racing team’s performance following the Daytona 500. I was hoping to mention that in passing today, along with results from the Auto Club 500, from Fontana CA. No way I could predict two blown engines on my team, and that they’d finish 42nd and 43rd. This, after they were both running well in the top 10, along with 3 others of my team of 8. So, in an instant, I went from a decent comeback, to the racin’ toilet yet again.

Hats off to Matt Kenseth on the victory; at least Jimmie Johnson didn’t win.

More Quicken Suckage

As I mentioned here, Quicken has released a new “stability” update for Quicken 2006 for Mac. I installed it the other night; tonight, I had the distinct displeasure of trying it for the first time.

I had my payment recorded in Quicken Bill Pay, and hit send. I then got prompted for my PIN, I entered that, only to note that the “OK” button was greyed out, and that my only option was to “change PIN”. OK, try that. It now wants my old PIN, and new PIN twice. Standard stuff. I try that; no soap. I try again; nada.

Off to the QBP website, to enter the payment, a trivial payment for the mortgage. The website is more than happy to accept my PIN, and we’ll be living indoors for yet another month.

To anyone along the way to whom I’ve extolled the virtues of Quicken/Quicken Bill Pay: “honest, it used to be really great.” Now, it’s worse than useless. Avoid it. Life’s too short. Quicken sucks.
