Hyperlinks to Hyperwords
I happened across a slick extension for Firefox the other day: Hyperwords. It is simple, elegant, and handy, though still probably in a β+ state; does that make it a γ?
You install it via the usual FFX-install method; then when browsing, highlight a word, or a block of text. You’ll be presented with a pop-up menu that lets you choose from the following:
Search the web for sites using the term in text, pictures (uses the usual search engines).
Search for the text in several popular news sources.
Lookup the term in several references, WikiPedia, dictionary.com, movie databases, etc.
Shop for an item using the popular interweb shopping places.
Print the selection, or send it via email.
Tag the page for several tagging sites, or search for it in the likes of Technorati, et.al.
Blog the selection, or search for it on blog search sites.
Find the selection on a map, get the weather, etc.
Translate the selection from/to other languages.
A Swiss Army Knife of FFX extensions, incorporating a lot of useful doodads in one toolbox. I like it. And it’s easier to check out than it is to explain.
See for yourself.
