The previously-mentioned Motorola Razr arrived this evening. After sweeping the dropped vowels off the porch, I brought it in, charged the battery, and proceeded to the VerizonWireless website to activate my new device.
The activation website had a problem, so I headed to the “wade through automated menus”1 via the land-line. To my surprise, the activation process required human intervention from Verizon, and I was blessed with an eager, bubbly (though not overly so) young lady, who got the Razr activated, and one incoming and one outgoing test call later, I’m set. A change of the incoming ring tone to something more classic (the one I picked reminds me of party-line ring tones from yesteryear), and I’m good to go.
As wonderful as web technology is, I told the Verizon lady that I appreciated her support, and that activating the phone wouldn’t have been nearly as much fun via the website. She laughed, I laughed, and we wished each other well. A good transaction, all in all.
