The 26th presentation of A Capitol Fourth is finishing airing on PBS. Stevie Wonder, now no longer called “Little”, was tonight’s feature performer. I always have, and still do, like him and his music. However, when his set lopped over into the start of the fireworks on the National Mall, I was beginning to feel shortchanged after not hearing one Sousa March, nor that July 4 must have, The 1812 Overture1. Stevie went on another five minutes past the start of the aerial spectacular, and then the National Symphony Orchestra played, guess what, the aforementioned marches and overture. I’m a happy man. I only listen to Sousa marches and the 1812 Overture on July 4, which, after further review, is also the only day I watch PBS.
Until next year, then.

1 – Or in lieu of the whole thing, the finale therefrom. Love those cannons!
