Happy Birthday, You Wonderful Old Waste of Pixels Blog!

One year ago today, this old blog got off to a modest start. A year later, it humbly rattles on. I’ve debated about “branding” and such-like twaddle, and today it occurred to me: I am a mutt.

Yep, I like NASCAR, classical music, good single-malt scotch, a good cigar, Chevys, country music, escargot, pulled pork BBQ, pickup trucks, NPR, Coors or Bud, podcasts, and the occasional dip of Skoal.

So, I like what I like, and during the next year, I’ll share some of all of the above with y’all. OK?

I guess I’m supposed to render statistics, so here goes:

  • one year
  • 699 posts(not counting this one)
  • 1881 Akismet spam blocks
  • Modest numbers for a modest man. Keep showing up, comment when you’re moved, and life will be good.

    1. Happy birthday, tbbs!

I don’t have anything against NASCAR, but I’m generally not much of a sports person (spent too many of my teen years holed up in my room with my ‘puter) I do watch occasionally, and also like watching World Rally Championship and GT motorcycling.

      Definitely like classical music.

I’m a bourbon and Tennessee whiskey man. Jack Daniels, Jim Beam, Maker’s Mark, in that order. Never tried single malt, much less single malt Scotch, simply because the bourbon is a lot more easily obtainable.

I have never smoked, but I’ve inhaled plenty second hand.

I like Pontiac Grand Ams, Oldsmobile Aleros and any kind of Saturn. But I can tell you this: I once got a Chevy Blazer through Alamo back in summer 2000, when they didn’t have the midsize I wanted. And then at another time, I got a Ford Explorer through Budget Rent-a-car. I remember I enjoyed the Blazer a lot more. Driving the Ford, it felt like it didn’t want to go anywhere. The Chevy was eager to go places.

      Definitely like country music.

      Never tried escargot.

Being a transplanted Puertorican living north of the Mason-Dixon line for most of my adult life, I had never had BBQ before my first day on the job at Dan River Textiles, May 5, 1996. We went to lunch at Short Sugars of Danville, VA. And I’ve been a pulled pork BBQ lover ever since. I also like their spicy cole slaw. There’s also great stuff at the annual Raleigh, NC, BBQ Cookout. If I remember right, it’s in mid-August. Check it out next year! :-)

Don’t care much about pickup trucks.

I used to listen to Fresh Air and All Things Considered on my 2 hour weekly commute between Greensboro and Roanoke, VA. I still like their content when I can get it. But nowdays podcasts take the bulk of my listening time. I only listen to the radio stations when I forget to bring my iPod & iTrip, when the iPod is out of battery, or when in someone else’s car.

Sorry, but Pete’s Wicked Brew, Pete’s Strawberry Blond, Pete’s Honey Wheat, Guiness, and New Castle Brown Ale are my faves. I can do Sam Adams, Bass Ale, Bud, Coors, Medalla, or Corona if there’s nothing else available. Those last six taste about the same to me, with Sam Adams being the one I would pick if I had a choice among the six.

Love podcasts. No doubt about that. 80+ in my iPodder OPML.

      And I never tried Skoal.

    2. Oh, BTW.

You put my blog to shame. pjtrix has been up twice, for more than a year each time, and it never got anywhere near your stats.

Especially the Akismet stuff. I’ve less than 10 spam blocks. But I don’t get anywhere near your comments or readers. Maybe they’re related somehow.
