The Only Reason to Fly

When one goes on vacation, visiting relatives, or whatever, there is one, and probably only one reason to fly:

You don’t need a box or two to house all the crap you bought while shopping at your final destination.

As I see it, that’s the only advantage to air travel over driving.

  1. There’s another: you only have four days to visit your relatives, such as the Thanksgiving four-day weekend, and it takes two days to get there by the next fastest method, such as by train.

  2. Hit the touchpad with my wrist and hit “Post” before I was finished. :-/

Anyhow, I wrote that cuz I have a friend that lives in Pennsylvania, but her parents are in deep deep Ontario, Canada (I forget the name of the city.) It’s a two day trip by train. Her parents will be retiring soon, so it’s a moot point. They’ll be able to visit her instead without time constraints. But you get the point.

There’s another way to fly that’s not too bad and does away with the TSA altogether: charter a small plane. I have a friend that does this and goes between Ft. Lauderdale and San Juan without any problems. He figures the extra cost is a good balance to the two-plus hours and TSA agravation he would get going “commercial.”
