Almost Perfect

I scored a roaring 152 over here.

My test analysis was:

131-159 points: You are nearly a perfect libertarian, with a tiny number of blind spots. Think about them, then take the test over again. On the other hand, if you scored this high, you probably have a good libertarian objection to my suggested libertarian answer. :-)

I’ll try to get better, really.

History on Hold

Bob Knight’s Texas Tech Red Raiders lost to UNLV tonight, 74-66. The Running Rebs shot 48% or so from 3-point land; that, plus a pretty smothering defense, was the difference. Tech staged a furious rally with about 2:30 left, but got into a position of having to foul, and came up short. So, basketball history is deferred until 1/1/2007, when the Red Raiders face New Mexico, from the friendly confines of United Spirit Arena.

48% on three-pointers; a tough performance to beat.

What Gives?

I was just poking around the Big Networks’ sites, looking for video of James Brown’s final arrival at the Apollo. CNN wants me to download Windows Media Player, while MSNBC, with close ties to Microsoft, is perfectly happy using Adobe Player. I’ve been Microsoft-free at home since 1999, and that includes MS plugins, applications, and everything else. CNN can go pound sand.

What a turnout at the Apollo, for the Godfather’s final sendoff. I was surprised, pleasantly so, by this article, which said that the late singer’s body was driven from the Georgia funeral home to New York. An all-night trip. Somehow, I think that befit the man, and the way he lived his life.

The More Things Change ….

The late President Gerald Ford once started his State of the Union address with this observation:

The State of the Union is not good.

30-something years later, that statement still rings true. Too bad there’s no one currently in power with the honesty to both see it, and say it.

Advent is Over

And on XM Radio, or at least on XM via DirecTV, classical Christmas carols. I’m listening, as I perform my spontaneous combustion abatement exercises in the family room. In the spirit of the season, lyrics from an excellent carol:

Hark the herald angels sing
“Glory to the newborn King!
Peace on earth and mercy mild
God and sinners reconciled”
Joyful, all ye nations rise
Join the triumph of the skies
With the angelic host proclaim:
“Christ is born in Bethlehem”
Hark! The herald angels sing
“Glory to the newborn King!”

Christ by highest heav’n adored
Christ the everlasting Lord!
Late in time behold Him come
Offspring of a Virgin’s womb
Veiled in flesh the Godhead see
Hail the incarnate Deity
Pleased as man with man to dwell
Jesus, our Emmanuel
Hark! The herald angels sing
“Glory to the newborn King!”

Hail the heav’n-born Prince of Peace!
Hail the Son of Righteousness!
Light and life to all He brings
Ris’n with healing in His wings
Mild He lays His glory by
Born that man no more may die
Born to raise the sons of earth
Born to give them second birth
Hark! The herald angels sing
“Glory to the newborn King!”

A Speedy Christmas

Currently playing on Speed TV, a NASCAR Beyond the Wheel marathon. Each race of the 2006 season is being recapped, from a pit crew/spotter/crew chief point of view. At a half-hour per race, it’s a great way to review the season quickly.

Then at 6PM EST tonight, a bunch of Barrett-Jackson auto auctions. I admire and am a bit envious of those who can restore classic cars. But I do enjoy watching, and seeing the iron from days gone by. I’ll have my drool cup ready.

All in all, a good day for gearheads and gearhead wannabes.

O Holy Night

O Holy Night! The stars are brightly shining,
It is the night of the dear Saviour’s birth.
Long lay the world in sin and error pining.
Till He appeared and the Spirit felt its worth.
A thrill of hope the weary world rejoices,
For yonder breaks a new and glorious morn.
Fall on your knees! Oh, hear the angel voices!
O night divine, the night when Christ was born;
O night, O Holy Night , O night divine!
O night, O Holy Night , O night divine!

Merry Christmas.
