Movin’ Down the Coast

I’ve decided to rehost tbbs to Southern California land. Speakeasy, my current provider, has been great, their service awesome, and I can’t fault them to any great extent.

However, they don’t support MySQL 4.0 or better, and I want to upgrade to WordPress 2.1. Not that there’s any urgent reason to upgrade WP; it’s just the way I’ve operated. I don’t want to wail until WP 12.0 arrives, still being on 2.0.7, and have an upgrade ritual involving sheep guts, if you get my drift.

After minutes of research, and this commendation from PJ, I’ve decided to host this old waste of pixels with Dreamhost. Dreamhost lists Brea, CA as their home base.

And, upon laying out a plan for the move, it occurred to me that the venerable Unix utility tar will be indispensable in the endeavor. When this old blog is hosted at Dreamhost, I’ll be lending a whole new meaning to the term Brea tar Pits.

Old men’s minds are fascinating, no?

I’ll let y’all know before the move commences; not that the interweb will be broken to any extent, but I don’t want to lose touch with my small but loyal band of web buds, who actually read this stuff, and are moved to comment on occasion.

  1. Hi there, Ken!

Later today or tomorrow, I will be posting on pjtrix a Dreamhost signup link, that you can use to get a $90 discount from a yearly pre-paid account, or a $50 discount from the first monthly payment on a monthly account (essentially waiving the setup fee.)

Disclaimer: I get a $7 referral fee if you signup to Dreamhost with my link.

  2. I had the DH enrollment form halfway filled out, today being a snow day and all. Then I was overwhelmed by the sudden urge to take a nap. Then I saw your comment.

I’ll sign up from your place, as soon as the linkage is in place.

    -k-
