Some stats, from my long, if not distinguished career:

1. Number of PMs I’ve known: > 100
2. Number who merely forwarded email around: > 100
3. Number who considered themselves line bosses: > 100
4. Number who could work project management software: 0
5. Number who could communicate tasks to the doers¹: 3
6. Number who could articulate concerns expressed by doers: 3
7. Number of PMs that really were/are: 3
