Police: Hershey Candy Looks Like Drugs
Are drug dealers now dictating that certain product packaging is taboo? Are our law enforcement agencies really so paranoid?
The packets, which come in blue and orange plastic slide-up cases, are similar enough to drug packets that a child familiar with the candy could mistakenly swallow a heat-sealed bag of drugs, Philadelphia Police Chief Inspector William Blackburn told the Philadelphia Daily News for an article published Friday.
“It glorifies the drug trade,” he said. “There’s really no reason that a product like this should be on the shelf.”
My mind just boggles. This mope really believes that children can be so easily deceived, and wants to dictate what can and cannot be sold, and its packaging, in spite of this:
A spokesman for the company, based in Hershey, Pa., pointed out that each pouch _ made by two dissolvable mint strips _ bears the Ice Breakers logo.
“It is not intended to simulate anything,” said spokesman Kirk Saville.
Maybe if the Philly police concentrated more on, you know, drug dealers and suppliers, they would have less time to worry about candy manufacturers.
But it’s for the children. I’ll have to buy some of this candy before it’s banned. This reminds me of the McDonald’s coffee stirrers of bygone days, which were or could be used as coke spoons.
Have we really lost our way this much?
