Camry Lane

I knew it was gonna happen, and today it did. There’s a Toyota in victory lane, following the NASCAR race in Atlanta. The good news is that Joe Gibbs Racing has the historic honor of delivering Toyota’s their first Cup triumph.

I’ll admit that I used to say “The day you see Old Ironhead pushing a Toyota around the high banks of Talladega, is the day this country is going down the old rat hole.” Times change; Ironhead has gone to his reward, Toyotas are made in the USA, and they are going to win more races.

I guess I’ll have to come up with a new old man’s Back in the day rant. Racing is the purest form of competition imaginable; fastest wins. And if this country isn’t already down the old rat hole, it’s heading there fast, for reasons totally unrelated to racing.
