CREATE South

Thanks to the internet, in the 21st century, anyone with something to communicate, whether by writing, audio, or video, has access to a free or very low-cost platform from which to expound. I think that there are probably more creators than there are platform users, because potential platform users may be intimidated by blogging, podcasting, etc because:

  1. They think it’s too hard.
  2. They think it’s too easy.
  3. They are overwhelmed by the magnitude of platform choices available.

In an effort to shed some light on these and other topics, the Grand Strand Bloggers, a band of creative new media producers, is hosting a conference named CREATE South in beautiful Myrtle Beach SC on April 19, 2008.

The conference’s purpose is succinctly stated by Dave Slusher, one of the conference organizers, in a press release announcing the shindig:

“We hope to reach those individuals who have an interest in new media
but are not sure how to begin. We appreciate the power of getting people of similar interests and
complementary skills in the room together to teach and help each other and to network. At the
end of the day, the goal is to reach the people who have work to do and a story to tell and need
just a little push to get rolling.”

So no A-lister navel gazing and swooning here. Just folks with creativity, curiosity, desire, who are willing to help each other out.

Sounds like a great thing to me. And I didn’t even mention two words guaranteed to motivate anyone: chicken bog.

PS: There’s a little graphic with a link to the conference in the right sidebar; it will be there until after the conference is over.
