Resumin’ Resumin’

A new tab now adorns the top of the tbbs-land website: Resume. In this day and age, one must be perpetually for hire.

So it’s fitting to post one’s own resume on one’s own blog.

I’m one decent and eager geek. If you know/are someone looking for a good hand, I’m ready to talk. After the talking, if we’re simpatico, I’m ready to deliver.

Tweeted my Last

Just when the Twitter/blog balance was beginning to, well, balance, the Twitter looks to be morphing into a spam-filled cesspit. I’ll miss the handful of cool folks I follow, and who follow me back.

However, when you get followed by folk who follow 50,000 others, and who themselves have but 6 followers, something smells.

I’m going to fall on the Twitter hari kari knife for the last time, as soon as I hit “publish” on this post. To all the good folk with whom I shared a 140 character or less tip of the hat, a fond adieu.

To the rest of the lame ass spammers, *plonk*.

eee Bloggin’

The last few posts were made from my eeePC, using ScribeFire. The eee’s tiny screen, combined with my poor eyes, makes it difficult to check spelling and punctuation with much efficacy. So, don’t attribute any grammar, punctuation, or spelling errors in any of the foregoing to any lack of dedication on the part of my English teachers. They all did a stand-up job, and I remember them all fondly.

The Power of a Kansas Handshake

I haven’t blogged anything about this, but, for four years now, my little bride and I have been the proud owners1 of 40 acres of Kansas farmland in Jeffferson County KS. We found the realtor online, and made a trip back there in search of housing/building lots for our emeritus years. We only wanted enough land to build a modest house, with perhaps enough left for a sizeable garden, and maybe also a decent shed or other such-like outbuilding.

We actually got a lot more than that. The land, and the adjacent 52-acre parcel, on which we had the first option2, was and had been being farmed by a local man for cash rent.

The realtor gave us the farmer’s name, we got in contact with him, and met him in the Nortonville KS, city park. We agreed on a rent of $55/acre, I told him to treat the land like he owned it, we sealed the deal with a handshake. He gave us his check, and back to NoVA we went.

That was year one. Two hears ago, he called us and said that with fertilizer costs, and other such items, he could use a break on the rent. I asked now much, and he asked if we could settle for $45/acre. I said we could do that, and for two years, the checks came in at that rate.

During our recent first annual Bundy FunDays, another check arrived. There was a Post-It attached to the check, stating that he was raising our rent to $60/acre, and hoped that was OK with us. It was sufficiently OK that we deposited the check.

Where else in the country could business be done like ths?

Another reason I miss the Heartland.

1 Along with our banker.

2 We subsequently declined the 52 acres. Wanted it, didn’t want to be land poor.

Bundy FunDays are Over

A little late with this, but my little bride and I enjoyed our week of stay-at-home housework so much that we have proclaimed the week that includes April 15th to be the official Bundy FunDays, and plan to make it an annual event.

CREATEsouth Readin’ and Watchin’

Thanks to all the Create South attendees for the Flickr streams, blog posts, and tweets about the conference. Though I had the desire, inclination, and wherewithal to attend, I lacked the open schedule time to complete the deed. I’ve read and watched everything about the event that I can find.

From what I’ve read and seen, the conference was well-attended, and without exception has met with positive reviews. I’ve lamented scheduling conflicts which precluded my Converge South participation for the last two of those. When Create South, 2009 rolls around, I plan to be the one with bells on at that one.

Attention, Target Shoppers

This is not England. Maybe some of you Northern Virginia snooty folk think that England is a better place to live. If so, leave. Go. Today. Pip, pip, cheerio to y’all. I witnessed none of you driving on the left side of the road today.

Why is it, then, that when you get to the Target, you persist in driving your shopping cart down the left side of the admittedly not-too-spacious aisles? Especially you of the wide-body type, with your also wide-bodied spouse. And then you insist on walking side-by-side? Do us a favor. Get a pilot cart to run ahead of you. Push the cart on the right-hand side. Or better yet, head off to Merrie Olde England.

Standing up the tinman

The MacMini, the tinman, took the place of our production iMac here at tbbs world HQ an hour or so ago. In tin’s first official act, he transmitted the AmEx payment.

A fitting shakedown for a new machine. Whisper quiet. The overpriced Apple monitor is great, with its firewire/USB hub all built in. I didn’t know it had that particular feature.

Gotta’ get my little bride’s e-mail up on there, and we’ll be good. A seven year old machine picks up a lot of items we forgot we had, so the iMac still remains, so we can continue to gut it of its valuable stuff.

Bundy FunDay MonDay

My little bride and I continue to have the vacation of our dreams. Today, the storage under the stairs got tweaked up from our last little foray. The trash bags are on the curb. What’s left is shelved, organized, and cataloged. Far too much junque remains, but we can at least find it. The better to fill trash bags with the next time.

Enjoy, tomorrow’s only Tuesday. First beer break at 11AM.
