Betwixt and between the Honey Do tasks assigned by MLB, I’ve managed to get the Fedora 10(Cambridge) Beta installed on my relatively new Toshiba Satellite laptop, named vagabond1. I’m running the 64-bit version in all its glory, and so far I’m liking what I’m seeing.
The much heralded Network Manager had heretofore just gotten in the way of my making wireless network connections2; with the Cambridge Beta, my wireless card was recognized out of the box, and NM offered up a list of wireless networks I might like to join. I chose “add new wireless network”, chose the tbbs wifi, entered the WPA key, and Boom!, I was on the interweb tubes. A 750MB yum update later, a reboot to activate the new kernel, and Network Manager dutifully joined the tbbs Apple-powered wireless network. Cool. Both good news and bad news. As long as it works, it’s a great thing. When/if it doesn’t, I’m concerned that my wireless command line skills might atrophy. I’ll just keep a good thought.
I added ScribeFire to Firefox, and am sneaking in a blog post3 before my lovely taskmaster subtly hints that it’s time to get off my ass and get this place looking presentable. I’ll do that, just after I get the vagabond’s X-server configured so I can turn off the TouchPad. I’ve retrieved random bits of this post from random places therein, as I inadvertently and clumsily brush the TouchPad as I type.
