Party Like It’s 1234567890

Another Seconds since the Epoch moment, tomorrow: the Unix Clock hits 1234567890, the number of seconds since 1/1/1970. Doesn’t count leap seconds, but it’s still pretty cool.

This event has its own website.

To find out when this occurs, on your *nix system, do this:
date -d "@1234567890" +%c

Here in NoVa, this yields:

Fri 13 Feb 2009 06:31:30 PM EST

.

That this happens on Friday the 13th is totally coincidental; I should be northbound on the parkway when the whole thing goes down. It would still be neat to write a loop to display Unix time, and watch it roll over, like an odometer near me did earlier this month.

But, heading home, as I should be doing, I’ll miss the event. Besides, I have to stop and stock up on batteries, water, toilet paper, guns and ammo. Friday the 13th. And a monumental time change. Can’t be too careful; we survived Y2K only through vigilance.

I’ll celebrate by cleaning my guns, and preparing for the domestic violence that invariably ensues in such moments.

And, now, back to the previously TiVo’d Duels.
