Live Siderunnin’

Nearly a year has passed since the kick-ass alt.country group1 The Siderunners played their final show. Today, I was tickled to learn via the Evil Genius Chronicles that the Siderunners are making MP3s of their final live shows available for free download.

I became a huge Siderunners fan after hearing them on several EGC Clambakes, and I’ve blogged about them many times right here. I even received some comments from the band members. One of the highlights of my blogging life was when the ‘Runners e-mailed me a few MP3s of some unreleased songs, while I not so patiently awaited the release of their last CD.

Thanks for the memories, Siderunners. And for the release of the final tour shows.

1 alt.country is now the real country, to distinguish the genre from what is called country music on FM radio

Too Long at the Fair

Periodically, and thankfully, not too frequently, SWMBO and I stay up far too late listening to music, dancing, laughing, and crying.

Last night was such a night. We listened to music, George Strait, the Siderunners, and a host of others. It was a real iTunes Roulette night that lasted frighteningly close to sun up. Such shenanigans should kill old folks on the spot, but we’re survivors.

Notwithstanding how much I love her, and what fun we had, I wouldn’t give a nickel to do it again. Until the next time, that is.

Siderunnin’

Oh boy, oh boy! Via the postman, my copy of the Siderunners’ latest CD, Sabbath Country Sabbath, arrived this afternoon.

I ordered the CD and T-shirt from Failed Experiment Records in Chicago, way back on July 10, as noted here.

Early last week or so, I received an email from Mike at Failed Experiment; he said that the first shipment was returned by the USPS, with no mention as to why. I validated my address with Mike, and today, all’s well. And not only did I get one shirt, there were two shirts in the package. If this is lagniappe for my patience in waiting, thanks Mike! If on the other hand, I got two shirts in error, I’ll be glad to pay for the other one, SWMBO having already claimed it and all.

So, there’s a Busch race this afternoon, tonight is pork chop night. Thereafter, SWMBO and I will don our shirts, pop in the CD, and hear some great music. Review to follow.

The album liner notes reveal that this CD was recorded in an empty upstairs apartment in the house of a Siderunners friend on 9/3/2005. From the notes, pure poetry:

… as we positioned ourselves as best we could to get a balanced sound. We started drinking about noon and just recorded; no overdubs, no fixes, no fucking pitch correctors; nothing except wood, steel, and whatever the devil let us keep. This is a band playing together, warts and all. Treat this as if you were in the room with us, helping yourself to our cheap beer in the twilight of anonymous summer day.

Later tonight, I shall do that very thing.

Anticipation

I got home after the mailman made his rounds today. In the door was USPS Form 3849 (rev. 11/99) about a “Large Envelope, magazine, catalog, etc.”, which they couldn’t deliver today. The “insured” line was checked, along with an indication that I can pick up the parcel tomorrow after 10 AM.

As near as I can determine, this has to be the shipment of the new Siderunners CD and t-shirt.

So, I’ll be rolling out early tomorrow, for a weekend at least, and am looking forward to the tunage on the new CD. And stylin’ my new tee.

The songs are, according to Failed Experiment Records:

Track Listing:
01. Somethin’s Burnin’ (MP3)
02. Kick In The Caboose
03. Due South
04. Kansas City Weekend
05. You’ll Be The Death Of Me
06. Countin’ Threes
07. Halo To A Noose
08. Sweet Leaf
09. Sabbath Country Sabbath

There are a lot of songs from Ain’t Inventin’ the Wheel, but these are acoustic versions, and I’m looking forward to listening to the whole lot of them. And guzzling a beer or two. And repeating the experience. Review to follow.

Thither the Siderunners

And the Siderunners CD is on the way, thanks to commenter Mike, who noted the following on this post:

Hey, the CD is available via direct mail-order from Failed Experiment Records. $10 including shipping. Will be available elsewhere soon as well, but just go to http://www.failedexperimentrecords.com and click on the web store!

I’m on order; an old-man sized, XL Siderunnners tee is on the way too. Love these internets!

Siderunners Sabbath

My patience has been rewarded. A visit to The Siderunners website reveals that their new CD, Sabbath Country Sabbath will be in stores on June 27. That’s next Tuesday. Hot Damn!

The album is described as a “live acoustic record”, which will be a change from the Ain’t Inventin’ the Wheel, which is raw, high-energy country at its best.

I’m sure the new one will be downloadable, or available for internet order, on the 27th as well. Look forward to a review right here in tbbs-land after I’ve had a chance to give it a listen.

Read about the album release parties, and be slightly envious of Chicagoans who can attend, here.

I borrowed the album graphic from the ‘runner’s site; I only hope rabid fans with blogs are allowed this indulgence.
