RIP, Bozo(Larry Harmon)

Larry Harmon, who made clowning a business, has passed away at age 83. Mr. Harmon wasn’t the original Bozo, but entertained a generation of kids by licensing the Bozo name and likeness to local TV stations nationwide. Now, 50+ years later, Bozo is still a national icon.

So, RIP, Bozo. Rest in the knowledge that through your efforts, the name Bozo lives on. I deal with Bozos every day, none of whom wear clown suits. More’s the pity.

Springtime Maladies

I’ve come down with the dreaded late winter/early spring cold. Several factors contributed to my current afflictions:

  • Mother Nature, for 40-degree swings in daily high temperatures.
  • A vendor, who shall remain nameless1, for providing a dysfunctional POS of a remote access console, forcing me to leave the warm but shabby confines of my cubicle and freeze my stindeens off on a cold data center floor.
  • And for lack of treatment of the current condition, my everlasting love to the bozos and bozettes who are our elected Congressional representatives, for inserting a provision into some totally unrelated other proviso which now requires me to register to buy OTC medications like Sudafed, et.al.2

Ok, nuts to the lot of you. I have a warm blanket and single malt scotch.

1 The vendor went to the extreme to solve my problem too. After leaving unceremoniously at 2PM the afternoon the problem surfaced, they called me not once, but twice, on the next day. By that time, I had no further need for the console, having already endured the stindeen frosting experience detailed above. They assured me the problem was with “our network”. I think I’ll nominate them for a J.D. Powers award.

2 I could be making illicit substances, and gosh, the law is for the children.

    My Minutes with WebIntellects

Maybe I had too much of a baby plan. All I was able to do was ftp to their site. Where’s the mySQL? Where’s the PHP? Where is the user-friendly panel where I could manage my own account? Where’s the HelpDesk?

These bozos are outta here; I’m writing AmEx now, to guarantee no charges will ensue. Seriously, I didn’t just fall off the yam wagon, and am fully capable of managing my own stuff, but these guys really blow goats.

Maybe I should just pull the plug on this whole thing, and be a couch yam in front of the teevee.

The Bums were not Thrown Out

According to Cato@Liberty, very few incumbents actually lost their offices last Tuesday. According to the post:

Consider that there were 435 races in the House and Senate with an incumbent trying to retain his or her seat. Only 26 – 6% — of challengers in these races have won. That’s pretty low for a “throw the bums out” election. Pending the outcome of three or four yet-to-be-determined races, this year’s 94% incumbent reelection rate appears to be slightly higher than the 90% rate of 1994.

So, before anyone celebrates “change”, “working in a bipartisan manner”, and other such-like euphemisms, remember that the new Bozos are a lot like the old. In most cases, it’s still the same Bozo. And we all know how that turned out.
