Could one see a headline like this:
4 teens stabbed in northeast Washington after peace festival
At least they weren’t shot; guns are banned in the District. Looks like the ban is working.

In the all’s well that’s finally over department, DC Administrative Judge Roy Pearson, who gained brief notoriety and a gold star in my nitwit class, has lost his job as an administrative law judge. His appointment expired on May 2, and the Commission overseeing the appointment of administrative law judges has voted not to reappoint him.
While the Commission considers the non-reappointment a “personnel matter”, Pearson’s frivolous lawsuit couldn’t have enhanced his prospects.

That’s the code name of a weekend initiative in the District of Columbia to put every police officer on the streets, in 8-hour shifts, through the weekend. This is in response to a raft of shootings earlier in the week. I was just watching the news coverage of the initiative, when I heard a DC police spokesperson utter these profound words:
The common denominator in all these shootings is that people are shooting one another.
Perhaps Yogi Berra could be a spokesman as well. Thanks, DC, for making Northern Virginia seem like the promised land.

I slept in a bit yesterday morning, after being up late on Friday to help facilitate application patching on some work machines.
On awakening, I make a trip to the coffee maker for a mug of hot caffeinated jumpstart. In mid-staircase, I heard the ring of the stinking on-call pager. Cuppa’ joe in hand, I plop myself down in the tbbs headquarters Captain’s chair, and call the indicated number. One of the application folks had a runaway application1, and wanted me to stop the recalcitrant process. A scripted kill -9 later, and I’m enjoying my coffee, with a promise I’ll stand by in case they have any further problems. They restarted their app, their life was good, and the lady I was talking to thanked me profusely, and said “Thanks, baby doll.”
Suppose she knew I was still in my bedclothes while I was helping her out?

Paula Zahn is jumping ship being released from her excreble prime-time CNN gig, to land again at Fox News, where I’m sure she will continue to distinguish herself in “broadcast journalism”.
Campbell Brown, currently at NBC will take over Paula’s prime-time slot. I actually liked Campbell Brown.
And the whole story differs little from the A-list blogger cluster eff we see almost daily.
At least WTOP news, wherein the link leads, had the good sense to classify this whole mess as “entertainment”. I want “news”, not “entertainment”.
Feh.

NASCAR, apparently not content to merely own the racing business, wants to dominate it. Team sponsors are hard to come by. At $15 million and up for a season, small wonder.
Now, NASCAR sees fit to sue AT&T for $100 million.
Man, when your sponsor is acquired by another, it seems to me there should be some kind of understanding. NASCAR wants $100 mil worth. I might take my business to local dirt tracks.
Let ‘em understand that.

And the story of sad sack Andrew Speaker continues to unfold. The poor mope has known about his tuberculosis since the first of the year, but he’s engaged to be married, and heads off to Greece 1 on his honeymoon or whatever.
On the way, we’ve seen DHS/TSA/Customs doing what they do best: pissing away taxpayer dollars, claiming that their screening process keeps us safe, when they can’t even stop one mope, with a presumably valid passport, who is flagged as not suitable to travel. Damn, I wonder.
And then, his daddy-in-law turns out to be a CDC microbiologist specializing in of all things TB.
Tearful apologies from Andy, and Diane Sawyer there to document the whole cluster eff for us.
In the unlikely event I ever fly again, what are the gel and liquid rules for carry-ons?
Man, this is gonna be a “news” story for a while. 2

Here at tbbs-land, we have our own blimp, pictured to the right. I’d just arrived home from work the other night, when I saw this heading toward Dulles airport. I have no clue whose blimp it was, I didn’t have the angle to get a side view. But I had the trusty Razr, and snapped this pic. I think this was my first sighting of a blimp in the wild.
So, don’t be surprised if you are watching the Rose Bowl next January, and hear
Today’s aerial coverage provided by the tbbs blimp Monarch.

CBS has cancelled Jericho for the upcoming season. I neither know nor care about the business side of the decision, but SWMBO and I liked the show. I’ll be up front, and admit that its setting in Kansas reeled us in initially, and the show became a must watch. Portions, at least, were filmed in and around Lawrence KS, if I remember correctly. Anyhow, we liked the show, and we’ll miss it.
In better teevee-land news, 24 has been renewed for two days, or two more seasons, in broadcasting-and-show-format-speak.
The Tivo will still be of use, then.
