Driving Miz Nancy, #2

MLB and I just returned from an outing almost totally unrelated to her ongoing recuperation. Our youngest granddaughter’s 8th birthday is approaching, as is Easter. MLB wanted to get some gifts for the little one, and some Easter cards. We were also in need of some items in the Charmin paper products category. So, we went to Target, and got everything on the list, and then some.

I’d forgotten what shopping is like when she’s along. I guess what she does is in fact shopping; what I do is buying. My goal is go get in, get what I need, and get back out. With her, it’s more of a journey unto itself. I did mage a huge discovery, while she shopped. I was roaming the aisles, and discovered that Target carries Shiner Bock. At a buck a six-pack less than the Harris-Teeter. It’s only sold warm; modern in-home refrigeration renders that a non-issue.

So, we’re back. The Shiner is in the fridge, the paper products are stored. The only thing related to her ongoing care was a box of 50 disposable latex gloves; they are in their place, along with the other wound dressing supplies.

Normalcy returns; slowly, it seems. But it returns.

T-Minus a Bit Less than 24

As much as I love my grandchildren, and as blessed as I am that they’re part of the family, we leave slam dunk Los Angeles tomorrow, for the return trip back home. We’re glad of that; our grandparent systems aren’t as resilient to commotion, noise, and Houdini-baffling schedules as they used to be.  If there was ever a time we were used to such.

Our boarding passes are printed; the reservation to get us to LAX is made with SuperShuttle. Our  travelling home duds laid out, and we’re ready to roll.

Our last mission, should we choose to accept it, is to liquidate the beer inventory.

We so choose.

Phone Messages

We had a message on our answering machine last week. The message was from our youngest granddaughter; she advised us that she had lost her first tooth.

A right of passage for her, another reminder for MLB and I that we’re growing older. Our oldest granddaughter turns 16 in February, an event that will make us feel positively ancient.

Happy Birthday, Tatiana

My youngest grandchild turns 6 today. She was also born on a Friday the 13th. It was also on the Good Friday of biblical renown.

I wish I had all my equipment back here in tbbs World HQ1; I’d post a picture of the little darling. Here before long, I’ll get that done, and post a picture of the whole family.

In the meantime, Happy Birthday, Tatiana Cheyenne2

1 SWMBO and I have moved very slowly in restoring after the remodeling, so part of the HQ gear is stranded upstairs yet.

2 Love that middle name, too!

87

My dad would have turned 87 today. He died in 1984, but he’s still missed.

He’s missed seeing me grow up a little more.
He’s missed seeing his great-grandhildren.
He’s missed any platform for his calm, quiet analysis of any issue you can name.

We, Nancy, Rhonda, the grandkids, and everyone, miss him as well. Because we don’t get the chance to share what he missed.

Happy Birthday, Ericka!

Happy Birthday, young lady!
It can’t be you are 14 today; I know I haven’t aged since you were born. Grandma either for that matter. This picture is a couple of years old, I guess. I’ve been hammering on this website for an hour or two, and my graphics skills don’t hold a candle to your Dad’s. No matter, We love you!

Teach your (grand)Children Well

My 11 year-old grandson celebrated his birthday on November 22. His gift package from SWMBO and me included a Dale Earnhardt Jr racing hat.

During yesterday’s phone conversation, he said “Grandpa, I really like that hat. When I forget to comb my hair, I just put the hat on my head, and nobody can tell.”

Words like that make an old grandfather’s heart swell with pride. Not that I wear my hat for such a purpose. Of course not.
