Wintry Header Graphic

With the Christmas and New Year’s festivities behind us, I thought it time to update the header graphic in tbbs-land. From budding, via the Flickr, this wintry Kansas pond scene for your viewing pleasure.

As always, thanks to those who can for licensing their work through Creative Commons, for the benefit of those like me who can’t.

Christmas Header Graphic

When ya’ got nothing to say, you metablog. But check out the beautiful new header graphic of the Kansas City Plaza, decked out it all its Christmas finery. The graphic is from John Ong, who made it available via Creative Commons licensing.

I’m grateful for all those with talents who are willing to share the fruits of their labor. I’m also thankful that my ham-fisted Gimp skills didn’t overly damage the beauty of John’s magnificent photo.

Thanks, John!

You can view the header graphic history of this old blog by clicking that “Headers” thingy up top.

Autumnal Header Graphic

tbbs is graced by the photographic expertise of WSK_2005, aka Shawn Kinkade who got this beautiful shot of autumnal foliage at the Kansas City Zoo.

More importantly, Shawn made the work available under a Creative Commons license with the “free to remix” clause active.

I trust that my limited Gimp skills didn’t detract too much from the magnificence of the photo.

Thanks, Shawn!

Seasonal Header Graphic

To commemorate the Kansas Jayhawks’ ascendance to the NCAA Men’s Basketball Championship game, I thought it appropriate to adorn the old blog header. From the Flicker, and Jeff Croft, this panorama of historic Allen Fieldhouse.

I loved this description of Allen that Jeff posted with the picture:

Feels like the Lambeau Field of college basketball, to me.

Indeed. Even though Monday Night’s game won’t be played in Allen’s Friendly Confines, Memphis is well-advised to Beware of the Phog.

Rock Chalk!

New Header Graphic

I love folks who license their works via Creative Commons. From Flickr, and the kansasexplorer, the newest header graphic to adorn my shabby writing.

This is a picture of Nicodemus KS, a place a scant 50 or 60 miles from my hometown. I can’t adequately explain the significance of Nicodemus, so I’ll quote the Kansas Explorer, in his comment on the photo:

In the decades immediately following the Civil War, thousands of freed slaves were lured to the high plains states, often with lies about the wonderful weather and the rich land. One settlement of former slaves was Nicodemus, Kansas, seen from a distance in the photograph. It was difficult to eke out a living here due to the harsh conditions. Now nearly a ghost town with less than 25 inhabitants, Nicodemus is a National Historic Site, complete with a visitors center. An annual homecoming event draws hundreds of blacks back to their Kansas roots.

People used to come from miles around to what I heard was a great little BBQ/soul food restaurant in or near there. The lady that founded the eatery has since passed on; don’t know if it’s still in business. And, in my list of everlasting laments, I never ate there.

New Header Graphic

As a Kansas expatriate, I love this one. It’s titled “Field of Sunflowers”, in western Kansas. I’ll bet I’ve driven past that very spot multiple times.

While we’re on the subject of headers, there’s a headers tab up-top there, which shows all the headers that have graced this old blog, since its upgrade to the Shades of Gray theme. And there’s a Credits link in the right sidebar, which serves as the credit for the currently running header graphic. People willing to share their work should be recognized, and given credit. At least here, they will be. Thanks to all.

New Livery

This poor old pixel torturing weblog at least looks spiffy, thanks to the Shades of Gray theme, based on the Sandbox theme.

I don’t pretend to understand how those themes interact, all I know is you need the Sandbox, and then another theme rides atop that. I like minimalistic themes; this one satisfies that preference, while at the same time providing a little flair.

I’ve wanted something with a nice header graphic for a while; the one currently on display is a 1911 image of Akron OH. It came with the theme, and thanks to the excellent documentation, I can change it at will. As soon as I have something cool to put up there, that is.

Maybe my writing will improve to do justice to the elegance of the new look. I can dream, can’t I?

Old. Older. Oldest.

Elder Daughter reached a birthday of some significance yesterday, 03.03, at 03.03.03 PM, according to SWMBO, who was there after all. The least significant digit of ED’s age is now a zero.

If I were the tacky sort, and if this old blog were like the small hometown newspapers, there would be a photo of ED, at age 2-4, with a header reading:

Lordy, Lordy, look who’s

And below that :

Insert age here (It rhymes with the above).

Since we aren’t tacky in the least, we won’t do that. tbbs-land, SWMBO and I, wish our lovely Rhonda Jean a very happy birthday, and convey our endless love to her.
