Hoops tonight

Memphis/UCLA at 6PM, followed by North Carolina/Kansas thereafter. We’re making lasagna, salad, and bread, something that’s a no-brainer to throw together in advance, and can be ready by gametime. In such a fashion, we can be nourished whilst absorbing all the exciting action.

This is a first for me; my picks for the Final Four are exactly the ones who are there. And I’m in the running to win my little bride’s office pool. Should the Kansas Jayhawks win the national championship, I’ll forget all about office pools. Though their winning would greatly boost my pool-winning chances.

And, in yet another exhibition of enlightened sports scheduling, the Nextel Nationwide Series 1race runs immediately prior to the tip of the opening game.

1 Previously known as the Busch Series

Finally, the Final Four

Kansas over Davidson, 59-57. What a nail biter that one was. Davidson’s Cinderella shoe now has slipped off this year, but we now know:

  1. Where Davidson is
  2. The Davidson Wildcats aren’t sneaking up on anyone any more

Congratulations to both teams, for proving again that March Madness is the best madness of all.

Now, on to San AnTexas, Tonio, where the Dance continues.

Hoops Time!

Man, I’m glad my little bride asked me who’s playing basketball now. I thought the NCAA games started around 6 or 6:30, like they did last night.

We flipped over from the NASCAR race just in time to see the last minute of Texas/Memphis.

With KU/Davidson to follow. This Davidson team is no fluke, having come this far. They have nothing to lose, and with their talent, will be a tough opponent. Please, Kansas, think about that. Think about my office pool.

Rock Chalk!

Orange Bowl

Watching pre-game hype on Fox. In spite of the fact that Bob Dole spoke for the Jayhawks in the overview of the two schools, I’m rooting for Kansas anyhow.

I was a KU student the last time they went to the Orange Bowl, and hope this year’s outcome is more favorable.

Rock Chalk!

Busman’s Holiday

Enough turkey, Shiners and football for a bit. I’m flipping back and forth from QVC to the Washington Redskins game, whilst upgrading the Toshiba laptop to Fedora 8.

I normally do fresh installs; this time I’m doing an upgrade. This all in spite my carefully making backups of valuable files, in preparations for a fresh, “clear the decks” install.

With any cyber luck, all I’ll have to to is recompile the Sierra Wireless drivers and mad wi-fi, and be good to go in time for the KU basketball game tonight.

A Bit Short

Last night’s Kansas-Missouri football Border War was an outstanding game; unfortunately, the Jayhawks came up on the short end of a 36-28 score.

Taking nothing away from the outstanding play by Missouri, it doesn’t take a huge sports analyst to say that had the ‘Hawks rushed the ball better, had they not turned the ball over three times, and had they not missed two field goals, that the outcome could have been different. If Ifs and buts were candy and nuts, etc..

What struck me about the game was the fact that Kansas never gave up; Mizzou, whose season-long 4th quarter domination was loudly trumpeted by ABC play-by-play men Brent “Why is he still on TV?” Musberger, and Kirk Herbstreit, was outscored 21-8 by KU in the final quarter in a comeback effort that just came up short. Brent and Kirk were so full of their insight that the cameras shifted to the booth with 3 or 4 minutes to go, and showed them discussing how Ohio State, LSU, and West Virginia could still get back into the BCS title game, and how Missouri had narrowly lost to Oklahoma1 in an earlier game, and how they should all but present the crystal football to the Tigers right now. They then turned their attention to the field, where Kansas was methodically driving down for touchdowns, and remarked “Wait, we still have a game here.” Indeed.

So, with an 11-1 season, and excellent prospects of playing in some warmer climes on New Year’s Day, The Jayhawks still have had a season to remember.

And I’ll be rooting for Missouri next Saturday. And watching KU on January 1.
