A Touchdown-like Score

Two field goals and a safety == two touchdowns + two kicked extra points.

All hail the Mighty Chieves! 14-6 winners of the Hapless Bowl against the Washington Redskins. Iff’en ya’ can’t score touchdowns, make the score look like ya’ did.

All this slobbering blogging about the Chieves springs in part from that we probably won’t get to see them play again this year, at least on our local teevee outlets.

And, I’m an AFC West fan. Today, a rare treat. The Raiders and the Eagles matchup is deemed fit to watch in our local market. I know Chieves’ fans aren’t supposed to give Oakland the time of day, but man, you just can’t deny the sharpness of Silver and Black.

The Comedy of Errors

You are really scraping the bottom of the NFL Football Barrel when you watch the Washington Redskins and the Kansas City Chieves play in the Hapless Bowl, and the game is interrupted because of “technical difficulties”, after which the local CBS affiliate switches to Baltimore/Minnesota.

At least, the concept of a touchdown is known and practiced by the Ravens and Vikes. A TD would win the game for either Hapless Bowl participant who can score one.

Still, they may suck, this may be an off year, following on several off years. But dammit, it’s the Chieves, and they’re from back home. Hope springs eternal, etc…

Cowboys Stadium

Watching Football Night in America, I’m amazed at the spectacle that is Cowboys Stadium. The stadium website is currently mobbed, so I visited the Wikipedia for particulars.

I’ve stopped by Bristol Motor Speedway, just to see the venue, when there were no events going on.

I’m sure I’ll do the same, if and when my travels take me to the Metroplex.

When it comes to football, though, I am, and I remain, an AFC West fan.

He’s Still Got It

Nice to see Awesome Bill Elliott racing well in duel #1. Don’t know what happened to his car to cause him to drop back so much, but he’s in the field for Sunday.

Two things I can’t explain:

  1. The NFL Playoff System.
  2. Qualifying Procedure for the Daytona 500.

Takes no effort on my part to watch and enjoy either one.

Update: It was a tranny that KO’d His Awesomeness.

Flyin’ the Colors Early

No doubt about it this year; the Pittsburgh Steelers are my choice in the Super Bowl. It’s no secret that I’m an AFC fan, so the Steelers get a +1 right out of the gate.

Still, this is the used-to-be-hapless Arizona Cardinals’ first shot at the Vince Lombardi Trophy, and it wouldn’t be the end of the world if they were to win.

On the plus side, there’s no one from New England or New York in this year’s big game.

And that alone makes it seem like a victory already.

Yeah, team!

Approaching an 0-fer

Let’s recap: four NFL playoff games this weekend; 3 played.

Number of my teams of choice that have won: 0.

NCAA Basketball:
The Kansas Jayhawks lost1.

Last NFL Game: San Diego vs Pittsburgh. My heart’s choice: San Diego2. Probable winner: Pittsburgh. Nonetheless, hope springs eternal, and I’ll be rooting for the winner of this one to claim all the NFL marbles.

1 A young team, though. They never gave up. They just lost. This too shall pass.

2 It’s that AFC West thing, and San Diego ain’t Denver.

Enjoying an Extremely Rare Win

No secret to readers here, I’m an AFC west fan when it comes to gridiron extravaganzas. Specifically, I love the Kansas City Chieves. With their 1-10 record, going on 1-100 for this season, Kansas City is not gonna be a playoff team this year.

My alternate team is the Raiders, who have rivalled the Chieves in abject futility this year.

Until today: Oakland 31, Denver 10.

Hot damn! AFC West fans do *not* like Denver.

My work here is done.

Autumnal Weekends

A crispness in the air.

Frost warning for overnight; time to drain the outside faucets.

Tweakin’ up the Dell Mini.

Taking apart a fan in the bedroom for my little bride so she can clean it.Damn fan resembles a Chia pet. Even in the best of homes, etc.

NASCAR from Martinsville, the nicest little track on the circuit. Beautiful weather there, too.

Ravens/Dolphins, Cowboys/Rams, Skins/Browns on the gridiron. It sucks being an AFC West guy in an NFC East world.

Enjoy the rest of your weekend.
