Podcasting Comes to QVC

I’m watching QVC as a household duty avoidance mechanism while SWMBO is at the store; they were selling a pretty nice little MP3 player with 2GB internal memory, and an SD slot expansion.

What struck me as funny about the presentation was this little snippet from show host Bob Bowersox, quoted as accurately as I can recall it:

A lot of kids today are downloading blogs, and what do they call ‘em? Ummm, podcasts. Anyone can make a podcast today, and a lot of people listen to them.

Indeed.

And yep, I tipped over for one of the MP3 players, too.

Crackhead Chicken Dance

Gotta love these internets. A couple of posts back, I lamented the breakup of The Siderunners, and mentioned how I was introduced to them and their breed of magnificent country music.

I also made a podcast song request, and today I listened to the Evil Genius Chronicles Clambake episode of April 24, where my request was fulfilled. A good show by Dave Slusher, everybody’s Podcast Buddy, including the only song in the world with “crackhead chicken dance” in the lyrics.

Thanks, Dave!

A tbbs-land Quiz

If you can pick the bomb from these two, you’re not from Boston:

Maybe Turner Broadcasting should have thought this through a little more, but I still can’t see how this marketing ploy gone awry caused everyone to get into such a lather.

If I hear “post-911 world” one more time, I’m gonna scream. Or load up the iPod with podcasts and listen to them during drive-time. Yeah, there’s the ticket.

Is there Ever gonna be a transistr?

Or did I miss the announcement? I’ve been checking transistr.com for nearly a year now, looking in vain for the re-skinned, re-branded iPodderX. Is this project now defunct?

I have to get back on the regular podcast listening bandwagon; our local NPR station has switched to an all-classical music format. I like classical music, but it’s not drive-time fare. And the local news station gets tedious after a bit.

If push comes to shove, I guess I’ll have to dust off the old iPodderX client, and get back into the swing of things.

Happy Birthday, You Wonderful Old Waste of Pixels Blog!

One year ago today, this old blog got off to a modest start. A year later, it humbly rattles on. I’ve debated about “branding” and such-like twaddle, and today it occurred to me: I am a mutt.

Yep, I like NASCAR, classical music, good single-malt scotch, a good cigar, Chevys, country music, escargot, pulled pork BBQ, pickup trucks, NPR, Coors or Bud, podcasts, and the occasional dip of Skoal.

So, I like what I like, and during the next year, I’ll share some of all of the above with y’all. OK?

I guess I’m supposed to render statistics, so here goes:

  • one year
  • 699 posts(not counting this one)
  • 1881 Akismet spam blocks
  • Modest numbers for a modest man. Keep showing up, comment when you’re moved, and life will be good.

    On Second Thought

TV off. I’ve got the latest rendering from everyone’s podcast buddy, Dave. I’m listening to same on my laptop as I type, and 5 minutes into the thing, I can see the purchase of another Michelle Malone album in my future. Specifically, the Sugarfoot album. Hot damn!

And, when you bring up her website to snag the URL for the blog post, the same song Dave just played starts up. Had me all confused for a minute. I thought maybe there was a snag in Dave’s recording/production apparatus there for a bit. Then came the dawn.

Update: On the road, in a hotel room, listening to a podcast, because everything on the teevee sucks. It doesn’t get much better than that.
