XM Radio This Week

A monumental event, Saturday 4/22, featuring the greatest band ever on the face of the planet (IMO anyhow):

Buffalo Springfield: Rhino Anthology
The 60s – XM 6 – Saturday 11AM – 1PM ET / 9PM – 11PM ET
In early 1966, the chance meeting of Stephen Stills and Neil Young spawned Buffalo Springfield, a short-lived, yet highly influential 60s folk rock group. Hear the songs, the collaborations, the live gigs, and the rough times.

Who turned the Lights Out?

I’m sitting here typing and reading newsfeeds, and darned if it didn’t suddenly get dark. It’s the arrival of the storm, dark, low clouds, rumbles of thunder, and the wind starting to kick up. Maybe I better check out weather radio.

UPDATE:The Weather Underground has told me what I need to know. I never knew their radar maps were zoomable.

XM Radio This Week

This is the closest to a regularly-scheduled item that I have, so here goes, from the weekly mail-o-gram:

Tuesday, March 6:

The King Biscuit Flower Hour
Deep Tracks® – XM 40 – 9PM ET
Santana plays live in a vintage concert captured in New York City back in 1985.

Funny, I always thought it was Flour Hour. I must have heard the Martha White Flour ad on the Grand Ol’ Opry once too often. Both are a blast from the past.

And, in the “Why do I bother?” Department, on March 7:

LIVE! Academy of Country Music Award Nominations
Highway 16® – XM 16 – 8:30 AM ET
Multiplatinum selling group Rascal Flatts along with double-platinum recording artist Carrie Underwood and The Early Show’s Hannah Storm announce the nominees for the 41st Annual Academy of Country Music Awards.

Was there a country artist in the above? Musta’ missed it.

All is forgiven, on March 8:

Bill Anderson Visits with the Legends #100: A Tribute to Patsy Cline
America – XM 10 – Noon ET
Encores: Fri. 8AM; Sat. 6PM ET
Bill Anderson pays tribute to the great Patsy Cline, welcoming special guests Charlie Dick (Patsy’s husband), their daughter, Julie, Jan Howard, George Hamilton IV, and Ralph Emery.

Patsy has been gone about 43 years or so; still one of the greats.

Finally, March 9:

Highway 16 Shortcuts: WORLD PREMIERE! SHeDAISY’s Fortuneteller’s Melody
Highway 16® – XM 16 – 6PM ET
The trio debut their new album Fortuneteller’s Melody.

SHeDAISY – easy on eyes and ears both.

Enjoy!

Sunday, 3/5 has the following:

The Doors: Unlocked

Good stuff.

XM Radio this week

First of all, golf:

AT&T Pebble Beach National Pro-AM
The PGA TOUR® Network – XM 146 – Thursday to Saturday Noon to 6PM ET
Live from California’s Pebble Beach Golf Links, Phil Michelson defends his championship at the AT&T Pebble Beach National Pro-AM, with coverage Thursday to Saturday Noon to 6PM ET, and Sunday 1PM to 7PM ET.

Many people enjoy golf; I’ve watched it on TV several times. Those soothing golf announcer voices make a perfect background by which I can doze off. I should sleep like a baby with this, except that I plan to be following Daytona qualifying action at the time.

And, a new beta service:

XM + Napster – Beta Release

It all adds up: the pioneer of digital music downloading plus America’s #1 Satellite Radio Service means it’s no longer just about listening to music. Discover. Download. Play what you like, when you like. We’re talking unlimited access to your favorite XM Radio Online music channels and Napster’s catalog of more than 1.5 million songs, and the ability to download them to your PC. A whole new way to experience music, intensified and grown to infinite proportions.

Try XM+Napster for FREE at napster.xmradio.com

This one merits a look-see at least.

XM Radio this week

From the weekly update, this airs Wednesday 2/1:

Willie Wednesday on The Bill Mack Show
Open Road® – XM 171 – 2PM ET
The legendary Willie Nelson is back, sharing interesting comments about whatever’s on his mind, taking calls from the XM Nation® and delivering answers to every question.

I believe this is the legendary Bill Mack, of WBAP Dallas/Fort Worth fame. It’s been a lotta years, but I can remember the Bill Mack Open Road Show, generally when heading home after closing down a saloon. It’s great to remember a few things from one’s misspent youth.

And noticing the time this show airs, I need to look at ways to TiVo XM Radio.
