Friday Nights

SWMBO and I were up far too late last night, or far too early this morning, depending on your point of view. We’re big fans of the TV series 24. We bought DVDs of the early seasons that were aired before we got hooked on the show. Last evening, we watched far too many episodes in succession.

We complain that the weekly hour-long episode of the show is not long enough; 6-8 episodes back-to-back may be a little too much.

We had a blast though; we enjoy the show, and more importantly, each other’s company.

Jericho’s Walls Have Fallen

CBS has cancelled Jericho for the upcoming season. I neither know nor care about the business side of the decision, but SWMBO and I liked the show. I’ll be up front, and admit that its setting in Kansas reeled us in initially, and the show became a must watch. Portions, at least, were filmed in and around Lawrence KS, if I remember correctly. Anyhow, we liked the show, and we’ll miss it.

In better teevee-land news, 24 has been renewed for two days, or two more seasons, in broadcasting-and-show-format-speak.

The Tivo will still be of use, then.

Springtime Rites of Passage #3

Today is the day we take the cat to the vet for his annual shots and checkup. The cat is not a big fan of car rides, but he’s a good patient when he gets to the vet. He likes to sleep the day away after we get him back home. Just like his owner.

Springtime Rites of Passage #2

The fruit trees in front of our house have peaked, bloom-wise, and we’ve had our first heavy springtime wind-driven downpour. These two forces have combined to dislodge bloom petals all over the place; it looks like snow on our front lawn. I think our cat really believes it is snow; at least, he’s exhibiting a strong preference to go outside via the back door, where the fallen bloomage parts aren’t so pronounced.

Springtime Rites of Passage

  • I’ve turned on the water to the outside faucets.
  • We’ve “sprung forward.”
  • The cherry blossoms are at full peak.
  • SWMBO’s hyacinths have bloomed.
  • A bumblebee took time off from his visit to the neighbor’s fruit tree to divebomb me as I went to get the mail.
  • And, the area is under its first tornado watch of the season.

    Spring Forward

This might be an urban legend, but I heard about a lady who called her local radio station; she was extremely upset at having to stay up until 2AM to set her clocks forward, and that was way past her bedtime. The helpful DJ patiently explained that she could retire at her normal time, after advancing her clocks one hour. To which the lady replied, “But if everybody sets their clocks at a different time, they will all read different times tomorrow.”

It takes all kinds. So advance those clocks tonight, check the smoke alarm batteries, etc, etc.

    A rite of seasonal passage

The turning of the control on our Trane1 Heat pump to “heat” has just happened. After a frigid 39-degree or so high today, it’s now 28. More importantly, the room where I’m typing this is at 65.

    Next step: Flannel sheets.2

    PS. Temperatures are in Fahrenheit.

1 “You can’t stop a Trane”, as their ads say.

2 Even SWMBO agrees with this observation.
