A Resolution Intact

I’ve never made a big deal about New Year’s resolutions, much less publish any, here on this old blog. Somewhere along the road, I made myself a promise during 2008 to refrain from visiting CNN’s website, and further not to tune to DirecTV channel 202, the teevee outlet of these 21st century miserable lapdog specimens.

And, in this, the 3rd quarter of 2008 A.D., I have kept my promise to myself. I may have been in a bar lounge where CNN was on the tube, I may have clicked a link on other blogs that have taken me to individual stories the site to which I don’t link, but I’ve never deliberately keyed in the url, nor punched 202 on the remote.

And this is a good thing, and I will continue on.

Good riddance, CNN.

Resume

In these days of the early 21st century, it is a good thing to be perpetually for hire. Below, my current resume in your choice of formats:

Pigskinless

Flipped over to the Missouri-Arkansas football game a little while ago. Mizzou leads convincingly. Then back to the real New Year’s attraction: a Beverly Hillbillies marathon on TVLand. Whee, doggies!

Happy New Year!

Prison Break Break

No Prison Break on FOX on Monday. Baseball takes over in the autumnal ceremony. I’m an extremely fair-weather baseball fan. When it comes to the playoffs, I notice that I root not for some team I’m passionately for, but rather against a team I don’t like.

So, no Prison Break tomorrow.

Go Tribe. Anyone but Boston.

Sportin’

Man, what a great time of year. This afternoon, University of Nebraska football. A squeaker, 20-17, for the Big Red.

Tonight, the Chevy Rock & Roll 400 from Richmond. SWMBO and I had season tickets for RIR for a couple of years; Richmond is a great facility, and a highly recommended race venue.

As we age, however, we can’t stay in an $89/night1 Hampton Inn, and venture to a track in daylight, only to leave in the dark, and be at the Waffle House at 3AM for two nights in a row (Busch & Cup Race).

But aging has its benefits, too; tonight we have the Sharp AQUOS, DirecTV, and HotPass.

Not to mention, Corky’s ribs, imported via QVC. And Shiner’s. Mmmm … Shiners.

Enjoy your weekend.
